J'arrive!

After two very long flights, we finally arrived in Senegal! As you can tell, we were all very tired but very excited and proud to be there.
The architecture is interesting. The roofs remind me of a part of an airplane. Can you tell what part I'm thinking of? What does it remind you of?
Here we are, loading up the vans. It took a long time. There is no rush in Senegal. We had to practice our patience and slow down and relax.

We got a wonderful welcome from our host, in-country consultant and expert teacher Aissatou Ba. She is from the Fulani ethnic group in the north and lives in Saint Louis, where I will be going after Dakar.

Behind Aissatou is Whitney, who is in charge of logistics- she makes sure we go where we are supposed to. Behind her is Mouhamadou Diouf, our in-country consultant. He is a teacher, the President of the Association of the Teachers of English in Senegal. He is truly an expert in education in Senegal and we learned so much from him.

Here we are, very excited to finally drive into the city of Dakar to begin our adventure. Behind me is Emily, on the left, she teaches History, and Noel, who teaches French.

Here are more photos from the drive into the city:

A soccer game. Soccer is very popular to play, but the national sport is wrestling:

This is a mini-bus called "cars rapides," and they are jam packed full of riders. The joke is, "How many people can you fit into a car rapide? Answer: "One more."

The beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean at sundown:

Finally, dinner!
